I am a professional photographer and lecturer in Stellenbosch and the surrounds. I run short distances during the week and with a young family do not always have the time to spend more than an hour during a weekend on a trail run.
Looking for established trail runs in my area have proved to be difficult. There are a lot of roads on farms that you are not always allowed into. There is also a lot of tracks. None of them have been documented properly. Also, I dont really want to run on a farm. I want a single track, I want it far away from the madding crowd (or at least 5km away). This blog will try and aleviate the problem I had with finding good tracks. I will try to map and catalog all my trail runs here so that other can follow in my footsteps.
Equipment.
Shoes: Of Course
Backpack: Camelback with two litre capacity. I rarely carry more than a litre with me.
GPS: I use my smartphone. I use Runtastic as my Bluetooth HRM works with it. I put my routes on STRAVA on completion.
Camera: I use a small Drift HD camera for video footage and a Canon G12 for stills.
If this is the first time you go trail running make sure you dont do it on your own. Also make sure you get good advice from good people on the shoes you have wear or if your current shoes are sufficient. Contact Bennie Stander from Natural Running in Stellenbosch for advice (because he is good, not because I have received anything free from him)
